BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) is an emerging technology. Apart from its therapeutic implications, this type of access to the peritoneal cavity might also be useful for targeted in vivo histological investigation by means of confocal fluorescence microscopy.
