OBJECTIVES: Clinical disorders occurring in HIV-infected patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) have been linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, for example, lactic acidosis and lipodystrophy. Mitochondrial membrane potential (delta psi m) is the most direct measure of the state of energization of the mitochondria.
