Arabidopsis thaliana, the AGC kinase UNICORN (UCN) is crucial to suppress ectopic growth in integuments and other organs. My analysis reveals that another AGC kinase, PDK1, needs to be repressed in
UCN signaling.
pdk1 ucn-1 mutants show rescue of the
ucn-1 phenotype,
PDK1 overexpression leads to an
ucn-1-like phenotype, and direct interaction between PDK1 and UCN was demonstrated. These findings indicate that UCN represses PDK1 directly, which represents a novel and unique mechanism in PDK1 regulation.
