This thesis presents four empirical studies on the dynamics of productivity and technical change as well as the effects of innovation in the European food and dairy sectors. The first two studies focus on aggregate productivity and technical change in dairy farming during a phase characterized by deregulation efforts and volatile milk prices. The third study examines the effect of innovation on productivity in the food sector in comparison to two high-tech sectors. The fourth study focusses on efficiency effects of innovation activity in dairy processing.      «

Diese Dissertation präsentiert vier empirische Studien zur Entwicklung von Produktivität und technischem Wandel sowie dem Effekt von Innovationsaktivität im europäischen Lebensmittel- und Milchsektor. Die ersten zwei Studien untersuchen die aggregierte Produktivität und technischen Fortschritt im Milchviehsektor während einer Phase geprägt von Deregulierungsmaßnahmen und volatilen Milchpreisen. Die dritte Studie untersucht den Effekt von Innovation auf Produktivität im Lebensmittelsektor im Vergleich zu zwei Sektoren hoher Technologieintensität.
