Beschreibung:
This document describes a model that simulates cascading effects within an infrastructure network such as a power grid or a water supply system. The script is written in python, with pre and post processing files in json format. The input data is the probability of failure of each nodal component of the network, and as output data the estimation of the probability of service disruption of the areas the network supplies to. Additionally, the model contains a taxonomy of the network components (nodes and lines), with associated fragility functions (i.e., functions of conditional probability of failure given an intensity measure) taken from the literature (FEMA, 2003). The algorithm for simulating cascading effects is based on the methodology presented in (Crucitti, Latora, & Marchiori, 2004; Hernandez-Fajardo, 2012; Poljanšek, Bono, & Gutiérrez, 2012). The provided data contains an example with the power network of Chile (Valparaíso Region), under earthquake events. This work was sponsored by the research and development projects RIESGOS (Grant No. 03G0876A-H) and RIESGOS 2.0 (Grant No. 03G0905A-J), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the funding program “BMBF CLIENT II – International Partnerships for Sustainable Innovations".
