cmRNA was used to create BMP2 transcript-activated coating for Titanium implants. We evaluated several physical functionalization coating strategies and tested the effect of coating type and composition on the translation efficiency, kinetics over time, cell viability, and cell proliferation in vitro. Finally, the optimized coating (titanium coated with BMP2 transcript-activated fibrinogen) was able to induce osteogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells in vitro, which presented it as a promising osteogenic implant-coating material.
