Inspired by natural machines, such as the ATP synthase, an artificial DNA origami rotary nanostructure is introduced with the ability to change conformations due to coupled interactions among its subunits. The nanostructure is composed of a rotating asymmetric camshaft and a surrounding trimeric stator. The structural and dynamical features of the complex are verified via cryo-electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and molecular dynamics simulations, which demonstrate that the motions of the nanodevice components are coupled and coordinated.
