Complex technical problems must be solved in the concept phases of the development process with an often incomplete or uncertain set of information. The recent introduction of the aPLI impactor for pedestrian protection represents an additional challenge in the design of the vehicle front-end. I propose a method to support the concept designers with guidelines that offer flexibility of design, while fulfilling the system requirements for pedestrian leg impact. The guidelines are based on a computationally-efficient front-end low fidelity model and represent, mathematically, multiple feasible axis-aligned boxes.
