To be able to reduce the effects of pollutants in the air on human health, an overview of regional air quality
is necessary. Visualizations of the time-dependent concentration curves of pollutants measured over a
longer period can identify factors that lead to an increase in these values. The measuring stations of the
NordAllianz measure the pollutants in the Munich North Metropolitan Region and make them available
online. First, an overview of the pollutants under consideration of their influences on humans is given here.
Next, the standard evaluation systems such as CAQI and the common interpolation methods are presented.
In this work, the measurements of the NordAllianz are then analyzed so that they can be meaningfully
incorporated into municipal and regional planning. On the one hand, the analysis is done by graphical
evaluations of the measurements in R. On the other hand, these measurements are evaluated statistically.
Based on these diagrams and statistical analyses the courses of the pollutants become apparent. Anomalies
and differences at different days of the week, times of the day or months of the year become recognizable.
Fluctuations of the pollutant load within a day were also considered and analyzed here, thus different
influencing factors were recognized, and the strength of the influence is quantitatively recognizable.
Regarding the fluctuations during the year, the average values within a year were also considered to
recognize the influences and their underlying factors. Anomalies which were considered in this work are
among other things, the New Year's days, and the influence of the pyrotechnics on the air quality.
Furthermore, the measures to contain the Corona virus from March 2020 were considered, as these
measures resulted in the containment of road traffic and can therefore also have an impact on air quality.
In the second part of the thesis, the research questions stated in the introduction are addressed (see chapter
"1.2 Research Questions"). For this purpose, spatial interpolation methods are applied to determine
measured values between stations. The deterministic and geostatistical methods Inverse Distance
Weighting and Kriging are applied and compared. Finally, error parameters for the interpolation methods
are calculated by means of cross-validation and then it is determined which of the two common methods is
better suited for the measurements of the NordAllianz. Finally, a conclusion of the analysis is given and an
outlook for future work is presented.
