Until now the relief ‘Resurrection of Christ’ from Schillingsfürst is an unknown work by Tilman Riemenschneider and his workshop. The interrelationship between the copperplate engravings by Martin Schongauer; the Monogrammist AG and two other reliefs by Riemenschneider (Detwang and ‘Wiblinger’ altarpiece) depicting Christ’s resurrection is discussed. Technical and scientific examinations on the first polychromy indicate that Martinus Schwarz in Rothenburg may have been the polychromer. A thorough study of the archival documents resulted in a detailed understanding of the relief’s history.
