Numerous studies have shown that the Mediterranean diet can protect against diet-related diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and various cancer entities, including breast cancer. However, the underlying mechanisms are largely unclear. So far, mainly the role of anti-inflammatory fatty acids has been discussed.
