Integrative oncology is a multidisciplinary patient-centered field of cancer care that utilizes mind and body practices, natural products and lifestyle modifications alongside conventional cancer treatments. It aims to optimize health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the cancer care continuum and to empower people to prevent cancer and become active participants before, during and beyond cancer treatment. Regional differences and preferences are evident in the use of integrative therapy methods. Oncological patients now expect their physician to be knowledgeable about methods of integrative medicine. Even in the light of the limited available evidence about integrative cancer therapies, it is necessary to educate patients regarding potentially beneficial and harmful therapies and to work towards an integrated model of healthcare.
