Phytotherapy and mistletoe therapy are frequently used by cancer patients and therefore play an important role in gynecological oncology. Within the framework of an integrative treatment approach they can help to alleviate treatment-related side effects and cancer-related complaints. Both mistletoe therapy and phytotherapy should be part of oncologic counselling in order to provide a modern and scientifically oriented treatment concept and to openly discuss therapy options with the patients. This article gives an overview of the recent scientific data and potential fields of applications of phytopharmaceuticals in general and especially of mistletoe preparations.
