Whereas the final differentiation of conventional dendritic cells (CDCs) from committed precursors occurs locally in secondary lymphoid or peripheral tissues, plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDCs) are thought to fully develop in the bone marrow from common DC progenitors before migrating to the periphery.
