In Bavaria, Douglas-fir (
Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco) is an exotic, drought-resistant and fast-growing tree species, whose wood is primarily utilised in the field of construction. The interdisciplinary research between forest growth and wood science covers of empirical, analytical and modelling methodological aspects. Throughout the entire value chain - from a seedling to the sawn timber - the influence of both silvicultural treatments and processes inside sawmills, are investigated to see the effect of wood quality and production.
