The Remote Ablation Cutting (RAC) is a relatively new method with the potential to reduce part costs, mainly by its high process velocities. However, the physical mechanisms of RAC are not yet understood and the layer by layer removal of the material from the kerf expands the parameter field to the number of exposures. The objective of this work is therefore to identify the individual processes and phenomena in the process zone during the RAC of metallic materials and to give a consistent description of the process sequence, from irradiation to material expulsion. In addition, a method to calculate the required number of exposures for a specific machining task will be presented.
