We propose the use of the “Tower Fish Pass” (TFP) in irrigation dams that can be operated effectively for relatively large variations of the water surface elevation in their reservoirs. We consider a TFP in a typical irrigation dam that consists of a series of Vertical Slot fish pass channels and perform its design based on empirical approaches and practical hydraulic considerations. We optimize this empirical design via hydrodynamic calculations using the Computational Fluid Dynamics model FLOW-3D to determine the main geometrical characteristics of the TFP.
