The work presented in this thesis provides a comprehensive summary of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) as an emerging geodetic technique with the primary goal to retrieve absolute geodetic coordinates at the centimeter level. The thesis reports on the individual elements of the proposed method termed SAR imaging geodesy, which is comparable to GNSS positioning. The versatility of the method is analyzed with experiments applying data from the currently operating SAR missions TerraSAR-X and Sentinel-1.
