Current treatment strategies of anxiety disorders primarily involve the cognitive behavior therapy. For a targeted supportive drug therapy a further understanding of the neurochemical mechanisms participating in cognitive fear control is necessary. In the present thesis the dopaminergic transmission and function in the mPFC during fear extinction were investigated by microdialysis and microinjections of D1- and D2-receptor antagonists. In summary, there was no hint of a specific dopaminergic participation in the processes of fear extinction. However, a modulatory function cannot completely be ruled out.
