Eddy covariance (EC) fluxes of nitrous oxide, surface energy, and CO2 were measured in a complex cropland ecosystem. The obtained nitrous oxide measurements are currently the longest time series for the crop sequence mustard/maize measured with the EC-method in the literature. A neural net was used to fill measurement gaps in the EC time series of N2O. Furthermore, simulations of these measurements and multiannual N2O chamber measurements were conducted to evaluate and improve the dynamics of a nitrous oxide formation model with two different boundary conditions.
