The lubricating oils used in engines and transmissions are subject to a natural aging process due to their high load during operation. The oil condition must therefore be checked regularly. Within the scope of this work, sensors based on non-dispersive infrared spectroscopy were developed which can be installed directly in oil-bearing systems and thus enable a quasi-continuous monitoring of the oil condition. Using multivariate methods to calibrate the sensors, a high correlation between the measured values of the sensors and reference data of standardized oil condition parameters was achieved.
