Abstract:
Linear dichroism \textemdash{} the polarization dependent absorption of electromagnetic waves\textemdash{} is routinely exploited in applications as diverse as structure determination of DNA or polarization filters in optical technologies. Here filamentary absorbers with a large length-to-width ratio are a prerequisite.
