Within this work, several Lewis acid, BDI based, mono- and bimetallic zinc catalysts were synthesized and tested towards their activity for copolymerization of CO
2 and epoxides. Besides, some of the complexes were also examined for ring-opening polymerization of β-butyrolactone and lactide. Chain transfer polymerization of CHO/CO
2 and poly(dimethylsiloxanes), as well as terpolymerization of CO
2 and different epoxides or other monomers provide access to aliphatic polycarbonates with modified polymer properties. Especially copolymerization of limonene oxide and carbon dioxide was investigated by in situ IR-spectroscopy, resulting in an unexpected reaction order for the epoxide and a ceiling effect for the whole reaction.
