Most important challenges in the development of web applications include platform independence as well as the inclusion of domain experts in all phases of the development process. The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) has numerous modeling and implementation techniques for the development of web applications. The objective of this dissertation is to propose an XML-based solution for the development of web applications. Thus, an approach as a strategy for the development of web applications and recognition of their individual components has been elaborated. In addition, XML technologies are assessed and evaluated.
