In this thesis the oscillatory electrodissolution of silicon is investigated. We systematically study and classify the different types of oscillations and identify high amplitude oscillations in the voltage drop across the electrode as a unified class of oscillations present under po- tentiostatic, galvanostatic and mixed control. Under appropriate coupling these oscillations then exhibit a rich variety of patterns forming spontaneously in the oxide layer covering the electrode including such complex patterns as ’chimera states’, i.e. the coexistence of synchro- nized and desynchronized regions. We investigate these patterns in detail and, by means of comparing them to theoretical simulations obtained with a generic ansatz, identify them as genuine dynamical phenomena.     «
