Most developing countries suffer from an acute shortage of energy, which has a negative impact on education, health care, industry and everyday life. However, the potential of renewable energy in these countries is usually immense. It can only be exploited on a sustainable and long-term basis if the necessary technologies are adapted to local conditions and if innovative solutions are generated. This requires both a close cooperation with specialists and scientists on the ground and a constant knowledge transfer. In order to raise the awareness of young people on this issue, the topic can be integrated in the curriculum of school and university students. Based on previous experiences, hands-on projects tend to be particularly suitable for this purpose. Two successfully implemented projects are presented in detail in the current article.
