Soluble amyloid precursor protein ß (sAPPß) is an upstream product of the amyloid cascade within the scope of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In this thesis, we study its diagnostic and prognostic features as a blood-based biomarker. On the one hand we distinguished between cognitively healthy individuals and patients with Alzheimer’s pathogenesis. On the other hand we compared the biomarker regarding slower and faster courses of disease. To summarize, the results of the thesis suggest blood sAPPß as a promising diagnostic biomarker. A prognostic power could not be shown.
