The aim of this study was to investigate the striatal synchronous intrinsic activity in patients with schizophrenia via functional magnetic resonance imaging. In psychosis, the synchronous activity was increased within the associative striatum and correlated with the severity of positive symptoms. In remission, the synchronous activity was increased within the limbic striatum and correlated with the severity of negative symptoms. These results demonstrate an association between striatal dysfunction and psychopathology in patients with schizophrenia.
