In this thesis, the development of an efficient and intuitive control concept for in-vehicle information systems (IVIS) is accomplished. A touchpad with haptic feedback is selected as the control element based on theoretical considerations. In two empirical studies, the haptic feedback realization possibilities on a touchpad and the combination of operating modalities of this control element with menu tasks of an IVIS, are evaluated. Based on the results, the menu system was developed and the control concept is compared to a serial control concept with a rotary push button in a driving simulator experiment.
