Die Arbeit stellt ein Verfahren vor, das erstmalig die Berechnung der Wirtschaftlichkeit von GIS-gestützten Prozessen ermöglicht. Entscheidungen, ob die Unterstützung eines Prozesses durch ein Geoinformationssystem (GIS) aus wirtschaftlicher Sicht sinnvoll ist, und in welcher Art und Weise die GIS-Unterstützung am wirtschaftlichsten organisiert werden sollte, können mit dem beschriebenen Verfahren erleichtert werden. Das Verfahren basiert auf Erkenntnissen der Betriebswirtschaftslehre zu Prozessmanagement und Wirtschaftlichkeitsberechnung, die für die Anwendung auf GIS angepasst und erweitert wurden. In fünf Fallstudien in Kommunen und Energieversorgungsunternehmen konnte die Praxistauglichkeit des Verfahrens bewiesen werden.     «

This thesis proposes a method that allows the calculation of profitability of GIS-supported processes for the first time. Applying the method, decisions can be supported if the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in a process is profitable, and, how the GIS can be implemented for the highest possible profitability. The method is based on findings of Business Studies on process management and calculation of profitability that were modified for application to GIS. In five case studies in municipalities and utility companies in Germany the feasibility of the method was demonstrated.     «
