From the selection of a plant specific spray material up to a successful coating on heat exchanger tubes in waste-to-energy plants, a significant amount of time and money is necessary. In order to decrease both, an investigation was conducted to determine if the corrosion resistance of different APS sprayed Diamalloy 1005 coatings under high temperature conditions can be predicted by using electrochemical corrosion tests in aqueous solution. If the high temperature corrosion resistance can be predicted, a fast and inexpensive possibility to evaluate the coating quality would be available.
After analyzing the results of the corrosion tests under high temperature conditions and in aqueous solution an identical assessment of the spray parameter specific corrosion protection could be obtained. Therefore electrochemical corrosion tests in aqueous solution can be used for a qualification of spray parameters in high temperature applications.
