The ongoing war in Ukraine has significantly affected the country’s infrastructure, resulting in extensive damage to civil and industrial structures. Ensuring these structures' safety, reliability, and durability is a crucial step toward rebuilding efforts. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) offers a powerful and innovative approach to assessing war-damaged structures without causing further harm or disruption. NDT methods such as ultrasonic testing, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), thermal imaging, and acoustic emission testing enable detailed evaluations of structural integrity, detecting cracks, voids, delamination, and other defects. These techniques provide rapid, accurate, and non-invasive insights into the condition of materials and components, making them ideal for inspecting war-affected structures in urban and rural areas. This paper underscores the transformative potential of NDT in post-war recovery, emphasizing its cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and capacity to minimize safety risks during inspections. In line with this vision, the Center of Excellence for NDT at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Ukraine, was recently established. This institution will serve as a pioneering hub, dedicated to training experts in state-of-the-art methods for testing critical infrastructure components. By combining advanced technologies and innovative approaches, the Center aims to address urgent reconstruction challenges while setting new standards in the field of non-destructive testing. By integrating NDT as well as Structural Health Monitoring techniques (SHM) into the assessment and repair process, Ukraine can rebuild resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding future challenges. This approach not only accelerates recovery but also establishes a model for applying advanced technologies in post-conflict regions worldwide.
