Abstract:
In recent years many studies on the numerical simulation of bone-implant systems have been presented. In general, a geometric model of a bone is derived from qCT-data, including its highly inhomogeneous material properties. Bone and implant are then meshed and simulated by finite elements. In the case of a fixation the zone of the bone close to the screw is of major interest. High forces are transmitted here and screw loosening is the major cause of surgical failure. As the scale of interest for...     »
