An accurate and general fixed-grid approach for fluid-structure interaction

This talk presents new fixed grid fluid-structure interaction schemas that can be applied to the interaction of most general structures with incompressible flow. The ixed-grid fluid field is extended with a discontinuous velocity and pressure field based on the eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM). The resulting interface can then be coupled to the moving structural surface or a moving fluid field with an ALE description using Mortar methods for non-matching grids. Qualitative examples and a benchmark computation demonstrate key features and accuracy of the method.     «
