For the work presented here, the bone mineral density and other bone-specific laboratory parameters have been determined in children suffering from mucoviscidosis or onkological conditions and the influence of various factors (such as height, weight, mobility) has been examined with respect to this data. In order to allow for an evaluation of the progress, the oncological patients were examined six times during the first year following the diagnosis and the mucoviscidosis patients were examined twice at an interval of one year. The bone density measurements were implemented by means of quantitative ultrasound, so as to avoid the repeated radiation exposure for the children. In both patient groups the results revealed distinct effects on the bone density and bone metabolism.
