The report shows results of comprehensive experimental studies on wake vortex systems of large transport aircraft. Influencing the wake vortex systems by promoting inherent instabilities is discussed. A passive measure, which causes a four vortex system as a result of its aerodynamic design, for which a higher growth rate of the instability exists and therewith the decay is accelerated, is presented. On the other hand, an active measure is examined, which, by increasing the initial level of disturbance or by insertion of perturbations in the frequency range of the decay, leads to an increased instability excitation. Based on the time-dependent velocity components the results will be analyzed and discussed using temporally averaged velocities and vorticities, as well as turbulence intensities and spectral power densities.
