The object of the investigation was the effect of RPMS on ten patients suffering from central hemiparesis with spastic paresis of the upper extremity. The method was a comparison of sham to verum stimulation and its impact on the motor function of the paretic hand. In a five-day research series for each patient two days of sham stimulations were followed by a day of rest and two days of verum stimulations with immediate clinical examination and technical measurement analysis. Within the verum stimulation group the clinical examination showed a reduction of spasticity and the technical measurement analysis tended to prove a statistical significance in the decrease of the EMG activity of the M. flexor superficialis.
