By nature, heat resistant material is subject to a limitation of serviceable life. To ensure the integrity of the components an in-service inspection using the replica method is obligatory. As a shortcoming, this technique is very labour- and time-consuming; the limitation to a certain area as well as subjective evaluation of the replica impair the reliability of the statement.
The thesis at hand supplements the ultrasonic laminography for the testing of creep-stressed welds. By means of direct recording of continuous Rayleigh waves depth profiles of the speed of sound along the cross section of the weld are measured with the highest-possible degree of precision. For the first time, the characteristic profiles of the speed of sound depending on the current state of damage allow for the early and non-destructive detection of changes due to high-temperature load-induced creep exposure in power plant components.
