The effectivity of mechanical Thrombectomy in patients with acute basilar artery occlusion was investigated retrospectively in a study population of 115 patients. As indicators of good clinical outcome, complete recanalization, good collateralization status, non-occluding thrombus, non-atherosclerotic genesis of the thrombus, good clinical status at admission and a distal thrombus location could be identified. The rate of recanalization success was mainly predicted by vertebral artery patency and the length of the thrombus.
