Im interdisziplinären Umfeld gelang es erstmals, eine Operation sensorbasiert nachzuvollziehen. Hierfür wurden multiple Sensoren an verschiedenen Stellen des Operationssaals und an den chirurgischen Instrumenten installiert und mit diesen operative Eingriffe kontinuierlich erfasst. Unter alleiniger Betrachtung der gewonnen Sensordaten war es anschließend möglich, die Abfolge und einzelnen Schritte der Operation sicher zu identifizieren und somit den Workflow zu analysieren. Mit dieser Arbeit wurde somit der Beweis erbracht, dass eine „Workflowanalyse in der Chirurgie“ möglich ist und auch hochkomplexe und individualisierte Abläufe, wie sie eine Operation darstellen, mit ausreichender Sicherheit erfasst werden können.     «

In an interdisciplinary environment it was possible, for the first time, to track and reconstruct an operation on the basis of sensor technology. To this purpose, multiple sensors were installed in various places in the operating theatre and connected to the surgical instruments in order to continually gather data about surgical operations. On the basis of the sensor data alone, it was subsequently possible to reliably identify the course and the individual steps of the operation and thus to analyse the workflow. This research work has demonstrated that “workflow analysis in surgery” is possible and even highly complex and individualized procedures such as operations can be recorded with the required reliability.      «
