We investigated the performance of the uncalibrated pulse contour analysis of the FloTrac/Vigileo (Edwards Lifesciences, version 1.07) and the initially single-calibrated pulse contour analysis of the PiCCOplus (Pulsion) in 14 critically ill patients with PiCCO's transpulmonary thermodilution cardiac index as a reference. The single-calibrated pulse contour analysis of the PiCCO was able to track cardiac index more precisely than the uncalibrated pulse contour analysis of the FloTrac even after 24 hrs. A hypothetically calculated initial calibration of the FloTrac led to more accurate results.
