Previous studies have shown a low level of preterm deliveries in areas with a high average income. However, in these areas pregnant women showed risk factors for preterm delivery more frequently. In this prospective study, 209 pregnant women in areas in Munich with high and low average income were questioned about socio-economic status and health-related behavior in order to investigate the previous results. According to the results, a connection between the mother´s insurance status and the risk for preterm birth could be shown. All together other risk factors (obstetrical history and health-related behavior) were equal occurring to the risk for preterm delivery.
