Zur Durchführung einer endoskopisch retrograden Cholangiopankreatikographie (ERCP) ist eine Sedierung des Patienten notwenig. Diese birgt das Risiko kardiopulmonaler Komplikationen und erfordert eine Überwachung des Patienten. Die Sedierungstiefe kann nicht-invasiv mit einer aus dem EEG abgeleiteten Variablen, dem Bispectral index (BIS), bestimmt werden. In einer randomisiert kontrollierten einfachblinden Studie wurden Sauerstoffsättigung und Komplikationsraten bei Sedierung mit Propofol und Midazolam während ERCP mit und ohne Hinzunahme des BIS verglichen. Hinsichtlich des primären Endpunktes, der mittleren Sauerstoffsättigung, sowie der Rate der kardiopulmonalen Komplikationen und der Propofoldosis ergaben sich keine signifikanten Unterschiede in den beiden Gruppen. Bezüglich der postinterventionellen Erholungszeit konnte jedoch ein signifikanter Unterschied festgestellt werden.     «

During the procedure of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP) sedation of the patient is necessary. Because of the risk of cardiopulmonary complications patients have to be monitored. The depth of sedation can be monitored non-invasively with a variable derived from EEG, the Bispectral index (BIS). In a randomized, single blind clinical trial oxygenation and cardiovascular complications during midazolam and propofol sedation during ERCP with and without BIS monitoring were compared .Regarding the primary study end point, the mean oxygen saturation, as well as the rate of cardiovascular complications and the mean propofol dose, no significant differences were found in the two groups. There was a significant difference, however, in the postinterventional recovery time.     «
