Silane moisture crosslinked polyethylenes play an important role in applications, such as wire insulation and water pipes. A prominent example is polyethylene-graft-vinyltrimethoxysilane, which is made by radical grafting of vinyltrimethoxysilane onto polyethylene, and can be crosslinked by hot water.
In this thesis, some new aspects about the influence of different factors and additives on the crosslinking behaviour of modified polyethylenes were investigated by various analytical techniques. Additionally, a new method for the examination of the in-depth curing of moulds was established. Furthermore, massive moulds of moisture curable polyethylene, containing high amounts of crystalline material, were crosslinked in a fast and homogeneous manner by a new tin catalyst free water releasing system.
