The conversion of carbonaceous fuels in solid oxide fuel cells can lead to carbon deposition, which decreases the cell power output. Different online measurement methods are analysed in this thesis: measurements at constant current, gaschromatography, impedance spectroscopy, current-voltage-curves. Among other criteria, the methods are evaluated for different fuel cell types according to the equipment required, their detection reliability, and their applicability for other analyses. If the operating temperature is high enough, recording of current-voltage-curves is an excellent method.
