Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Hepatic stellate cells express all components of the renin-angiotensinogen (AGT) system and secrete active angiotensin II. Animal studies provided evidence that angiotensin II stimulates the accumulation of extracellular matrix by enhancing transforming growth factor beta1 production.
