Driven by continued strong growth in air traffic and the growing importance of environmental protection, airports are increasingly confronted with issues concerning local air quality. Airports are places of action for all air traffic stakeholders. Therefore airport operators must identify the different sources of emissions and the individual shares of all stakeholders. With the methodology and the associated toolset developed in this study, airports obtain a strategic tool for sustainable future-oriented action. A detailed emission calculation model and a clear strategy for the definition of emission reduction measures allow them to meet the local need for action concerning local air quality.
