The focus of this dissertation lays in the synthesis of metal complexes with 4,5- acceptor substituted
1H-imidazol-2-ylidene ligands and their application in catalysis. Further, a dimerisation of catalytic active monomeric RhCl(CO)
2(NHC) to dimeric [RhCl(CO)(NHC)]
2 with the spontaneous loss of one CO molecule was evidenced. This reaction is followed by a shifting step to catalytic inactive
trans-RhCl(CO)(NHC)
2.
Additionally new distinct methods for the preparation of NHC-metal complexes were developed. A nitrile group can act as a good leaving group in thermal elimination of hydrogen cyanide, resulting in carbene formation. Beyond that, potassium carbonate – in water – was established as a highly efficient, mild and toxicologically harmless deprotonation reagent for a series of imidazolium- and imidazolidiniumsalts.
