Abstract:
Chronic infection with the gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori significantly increases the risk of developing atrophic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric adenocarcinoma. H. pylori strains that possess the cag pathogenicity island, which translocates CagA into the host cells, augment these risks.
