For decades the scientific community tries to realize the vision of hypersonic civil aviation and of alternative concepts for the transport of payloads into earth orbit. To further support these efforts the German Research Foundation (DFG) has launched a research training group (GRK) in the year 2005. The overall system design and the determination of the operational system behavior of the developed generic scramjet demonstrator is subject of this thesis.
A scramjet geometry for a design point in 30.000m flight altitude and a flight Mach number of 8 is presented. It consists of a ramp inlet, a supersonic combustor with strut injection for hydrogen and a single expansion ramp nozzle. By means of an own performance tool the thermodynamic cycle of the system is analyzed and the expected behavior is computed.
